Institute of Languages at the University of the Punjab, Lahore will host the 2nd International Conference of the Linguistic Association of Pakistan (ICLAP 2016) on October 18--20, 2016. The central theme of the conference is Aspects and Approaches in Contemporary Linguistic Studies. The conference aims to bring researchers and practitioners from across the globe, working on any aspect of language to exchange their research work and developments in the field. The program of the conference will consist of invited talks, workshop/tutorials, paper presentations and panel discussions.
Researchers are invited to submit their abstracts of papers on original and unpublished research work in any dimension of theoretical or applied linguistics for presentation in the conference by July 10, 2016 via the EasyAbs System. Abstracts should be written in English and the size of an abstract should not exceed the limit of 300 words including the title. In addition, you may put references, if any, but not more than five. Abstracts of the papers accepted for oral presentation will be published in the Book of Abstracts.

ICLAP 2016 seeks proposals to conduct tutorials/workshops on any topic of language, linguistics and the related fields. The tutorial should be of 1.5 hour length. For workshops and in-depth tutorials, proposals for two slots can be submitted. The tutorials/workshops should preferably cover the advances in the newly emerging areas.
Proposals of Tutorials/Workshops should be submitted by electronic mail, in pdf form, to iclap2016@gmail.com. The subject line of the email should read: Tutorial/Workshop Proposal for ICLAP 2016. The proposal should contain:
Tutorial/Workshop title
Brief description of the tutorial/workshop contents and its relevance to the language/linguistics community (not more than 1 page)
Brief outline of the tutorial/workshop structure showing that the contents will be covered in the allocated time slot
Characterization of the potential target audience for the tutorial/workshop
The names, postal addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of the tutorial/workshop instructors, including a one-paragraph statement of their research interests and areas of expertise
A list of previous venues, if the same or a similar tutorial/workshop has been conducted elsewhere

The Institute of Languages was created in March 2010. It is currently under the Faculty of Oriental Learning. The Institute teaches various languages including Chinese, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Turkish, Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Pashto and Sindhi. The faculty of the institute has published 18 articles in HEC recognized journals and 5 books during 2014 and 2015. Furthermore, it caters to various programs of the government, as recently it was the training center for the Chinese Language Scholarship Scheme initiated by the government of the Punjab. In addition, it provides translation services to a wide range of companies throughout Pakistan.

The relevant papers and training proposals submitted to ICLAP 2016, if accepted, would be lumped into the paper presentation session and the interactive/hands-on practice session of the corresponding workshops. Only the registered participants of ICLAP 2016 would be able to attend the workshops.
Please make sure to include the following information (in this order): the title of your presentation, your name(s), affiliation(s), e-mail address(es), abstract, keywords, selected bibliography, and short bio(s).
Followings are the requirements:
- The words in the title should be initially capitalized.
- The number of words should be between 350 and 400 excluding the title, author and bibliography.
- The required font is Times New Roman; font size: 12.
- The line spacing for the body of the abstract is 1.
- All paragraphs need to be left- and right-justified.
- Number of keywords should be 3 to 5.
- The bibliography should contain two 2 to 5 references following the APA citation style.
- The short bio of an author should not exceed three lines.
Sometimes usbs of the presenters either do not open on the computers in the presentation rooms or some other technical issues arise. It is therefore recommended for the participants who have got acceptance for oral presentation to submit their presentations in .ppt or .pdf format before the conference days. Proper contrast and font size should be chosen for better visibility and readability of the audience.
The poster presenters should prepare their posters complying with the following guidelines.
- The poster should be in the portrait form and its size should not exceed 36"x48".
- The abstract title, authors and affiliations should be indicated in a heading at the top of your poster.
- Lettering for the title line should be at least 1" high (around font size 72), and other text should be readable from a distance (around font size 24-48).
- Keep visual materials simple and clear.
- Divide into sections, e.g. Introduction, Analysis, Results.
- Try to avoid any more than 3 paragraphs of text per section.
- Graphs, charts, tables and pictures provide clear means of communicating information.
The soft copies should be submitted via email and the printed copies of the poster should be brought on the venue during the conference days for display and presentation.
To register for the conference you need to deposit the registration fee and submit the registration form. The accompanying persons with you would also have to deposit the registration fee and submit the registration form individually. Interested candidates are required to deposit the registration fee as per the following by September 19, 2016 September 24, 2016:
For oral presenters from Pakistan: PKR 3500 per person
For poster presenters and observers from Pakistan: PKR 3000 per person
For participants (presenters/observers) from abroad: USD 100 per person
If someone missed the deadline of September 24, 2016, an extra amount of PKR 500 (USD 5) would be charged for each of the above category but only by September 30, 2016.
